Philippines entry for most Western nationalities

Citizens of most Western countries enter the Philippines visa-free for 30 days under the 9(a) tourist visa. This can be extended at Bureau of Immigration offices for 2-month increments, up to 36 months total in-country. Each extension costs approximately 3,030–4,030 PHP.

Long-stay extensions — practical path

The BI (Bureau of Immigration) extension process is manageable but bureaucratic. Extensions must be done in person at a BI office. Manila, Cebu, and major cities all have offices. Extensions take 1–3 hours and are same-day in most cases.

Many nomads simply extend repeatedly. There is no income requirement and the process is well-documented. The total cost over a year of monthly extensions is roughly $200–300 USD including fees.

SRRV — Special Resident Retiree Visa

The SRRV is a long-term residency visa for retirees (age 35+). It requires a deposit of $10,000–50,000 USD in a Philippines bank account depending on age and pension status. It is a legitimate path for long-stayers but the deposit requirement is the main barrier.
